Summer is Here

As the school year comes to a close, vacation season is upon us.  Teachers, aides, and administrators get a well-deserved respite.  Students get to relax and do different things.  Graduates look forward to the next educational challenge or start to look for a job.  Changing gears and taking some time off is good for us.

Marriage Is A Reality

Recently the California State Supreme Court, by a vote of 4 to 3, decided that it was against the State Constitution to deny same-sex couples the right to marry.  In making this decision, the court contradicted the definition of marriage which has been in place since time immemorial.   A common dictionary definition of marriage reads: "the social institution whereby men and women are joined in a special kind of social and legal dependence for the purpose of founding and maintaining a family."  Marriage was not invented by the Church.  It is rooted in human nature.

The Holy Spirit At Work Again!

Many things happened in the week leading up to the feast of Pentecost.  The Holy Spirit, whose work it is to shake things up, may have had a hand in what was going on.

First, we had a visit from Father Kenneth Nobrega, who was ordained last Friday night, and will be assuming his duties here on July 1.  He came to see what he was getting into.  After dropping in at the church, the Parish Center, and the school, he got a whirlwind tour of the parish, from its northern boundary at Refugio Creek to its southern limit at Point Pinole. We have 3600 households registered, but there have to be more Catholics out there in the far reaches.  The harvest is great; the laborers are few.
