I am happy to report that our parish school came through the WASC/WCEA evaluation with flying colors. The team of visitors, who spent many hours thoroughly observing the school and its students and staff, were full of compliments. Perhaps their most important observation was the quality of the students. The team saw them as representing the spirit of what a Catholic school should be. This, of course, is also a compliment to their teachers and parents. Children cannot make progress without the diligent care of teachers. Teachers cannot accomplish their work without the support of parents. While areas of growth were noted, the overall evaluation was: Keep up the good work. Congratulations to St. Joseph School for that good work.

This weekend we reach the half-way mark of lent. We have come to the mid-point of our annual journey to Easter. This week's Gospel account of the Prodigal Son encourages us to rely on God's mercy and forgiveness.

This is a time of year when many things are happening. We have a parish mini-mission going on this week, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evenings. Father Jim Sullivan, a priest of our own diocese of Oakland, is preaching at all the Masses today. I hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity of grace. In this season of renewal, the mission can help you to live a better lent and a better life.
